Day trips ahoy
Day trippers are pretty spoiled for choice in NSW. There really is something for everyone without having to trek too far - from its beautiful sprawling coastline dotted with dozens of beaches through to picturesque mountain ranges, famous wine regions and more, whatever your taste in adventure you can find it.
Hit up the coast
There are a lot of stops that offer breathtaking views (and photo ops) and if you’ve packed the board, plenty of good surf spots. Just some of the beaches we recommend paying a visit to include:
- Pebbly Beach on the South Coast
- Wategos in Byron Bay
- Anna Bay in Port Stephens
- Bennetts Beach in Hawks Nest
- Hyams in Jervis Bay
Blue Mountains
To be honest, it’s really quite difficult to put into words how incredibly beautiful the scenery is up there - it’s something you really have to experience for yourself. The cascading waterfall known as Bridal Veil Falls; the monstrous rock formations called the Three Sisters; mountain biking; rock climbing and abseiling; horseback riding… you may well run out of time if you’re only there a day.
Wonderful weekends
Coastline run
If you can spare a full weekend, be sure to take the Grand Pacific Drive. At just under 150 kilometres long, it’ll take you from the Royal National Park (just south of Sydney) all the way to the Shoalhaven region - but with a heap of fantastic stops along the way.
National park overnighter
There are a lot of choices if you’re wanting to stay the night in a national park in NSW. One particular option we strongly suggest is the Pebbly Beach campground located in the Murramarang national park - a nice little beachside spot great for relaxing and taking in some amazing surroundings where you can also make friends with a few of the local roos while you’re at it.
Week-away holidays
(Far) North Coast
42 holiday parks, five World Heritage listed national parks, second-largest extinct volcano crater in the world… and a partridge in a pear tree. But seriously, there’s a heck of a lot to see and do in the far North Coast of NSW. Oh, and while you’re there take a drive through the infamous town of Nimbin - a town that’s perpetually been in a state of the munchies for many years.
Riverina-Murray River region
Head inland and towards VIC and you’ll find the mighty Murray River where you can head out on a kayak, try your skills on a pair of skis, lure out and catch yourself a Murray cod or get aboard one of the paddle steamers the area is famous for. If water isn’t really your thing, there are lots of historic sights to check out (and a few great pubs that serve some tasty beer).
